Deepfake checker
for videos and faces
Detect face-swapped videos, lip-sync deepfakes and synthetic faces. ScanTrace samples frames, runs forensic models and returns a verdict in under 90 seconds for short clips.
Quick answer
Upload the video. ScanTrace samples frames, runs face-swap and synthetic-face detectors and returns REAL, DEEPFAKE or INDETERMINATE with a per-segment confidence timeline.

Get started free — 15 scans/monthQuick answer: how to check a deepfake video
Upload the video to ScanTrace. The system samples key frames, runs face-swap and synthetic-face detectors and returns a verdict — REAL, DEEPFAKE or INDETERMINATE — together with a per-segment confidence timeline. A two-minute clip is usually verified in under 90 seconds.
How the deepfake checker works
ScanTrace combines three signals on every sampled frame: (1) face-swap forensics looking at boundary blending, eye-reflection symmetry and frequency-domain residues introduced by autoencoder pipelines; (2) temporal consistency across consecutive frames — natural micro-expressions are extremely hard for current deepfake pipelines to maintain; (3) metadata + container inspection to detect re-encoding chains typical of deepfake post-production tools.
The deepfake threat in 2026 — by the numbers
Sumsub's 2024 Identity Fraud Report found a 10× year-over-year increase in deepfake fraud attempts. The World Economic Forum ranked deepfake-driven misinformation as the #1 short-term global risk in 2024. By Q1 2026, more than 500,000 deepfake videos circulate publicly each month.
Editorial workflow: when to run a deepfake check
Run a deepfake check on every video that (a) features a public figure making controversial claims, (b) was first published on an anonymous account, (c) shows visible compression artifacts around the face, or (d) cannot be cross-referenced with the supposed source's official channel within five minutes.

Frequently asked questions
Can ScanTrace detect a deepfake video?
Yes. Pro and Newsroom plans support video analysis up to 2 and 10 minutes respectively. ScanTrace samples frames, runs face-swap and synthetic-face detectors and aggregates a per-segment confidence score.
What kinds of deepfake does it catch?
Face-swap (Roop, DeepFaceLab, FaceFusion), full-body avatars (HeyGen, Synthesia), lip-sync manipulations (Wav2Lip, video re-dubs) and fully synthetic faces from GAN/diffusion models.
What about audio deepfakes?
Audio deepfake analysis is temporarily disabled while we re-validate the model against ElevenLabs v3 and OpenAI Voice Engine. Until then, focus on the visual track.
How long does video analysis take?
Video runs asynchronously. A two-minute clip typically returns in under 90 seconds; ten-minute clips take 4–6 minutes. The dashboard polls automatically and notifies you on completion.
What is the difference between a deepfake and an AI-generated image?
A deepfake replaces or synthesises a real human's face or voice in existing footage; an AI-generated image is fabricated end-to-end by a generative model. ScanTrace handles both, but uses different forensic models for each.
Is the deepfake checker free?
Image-only deepfake checks are free for the first 10 analyses per month. Video deepfake checks require a Pro plan because of compute costs.
